Xdefiant’s final time has arrived, and it’s sad to see Ubisoft’s FPS go

xdeter Despite his extensive experience with FPS in the development team and extensive experience with major IPs like Far Cry and Assassin’s Creed, it was a game where odds were constantly piled up. Ubisoft was already running out low-performing games. The typical live service space is brutal and merciless. The demand for fresh content is painfully high. And it had to compete with one of the best annual Call of Duty launches I’ve seen in years at Black Ops 6. Laying everything in that way, a quick shutdown that arrives over a year after its release – is always likely. Inevitably, in some parts. But that doesn’t mean it was a bad FPS game in any stretch. Although not perfect, Xdefiant remembers as a game that welcomed months of fun and glorious days of glory duty.

I’m suited to Black Ops 6 now, but Tara was a dull, badly opinionated streak a few years ago. Anyway, that’s my opinion. Modern Warfare 2 was somewhat improved, but still led straight to Modern Warfare 3, eagerly eagerly to the golden age of the series. Xdefiant was selling itself exactly like that. Smaller, more traditional 3-lane maps, slick gunplay, a sophisticated loadout system, and class-based ability to master. Nice.

After a disappointing (and rather strange) retreat to try to get Xdefiant out the door, the FPS game finally fell in May last year. Despite it suffering from some issues (its dangerous hit registration), I grabbed quickly and enjoyed the shooter that many had already depreciated.

Season 1 was an explosion despite the technical gremlins. I knew that the time I had sunk into it would not be maintained. Especially with the new cod on the horizon and other shooters like Destiny 2, Apex Legends and Finals, all my hands burned in the air and tried to get my attention back. However, we certainly could see it entering the rotation of multiplayer titles.

Unfortunately, things started to unravel quickly towards the end of 2024. Black Ops 6 breathes new life into COD, and players (including myself) have begun to drift away in Xdefiant, who is still having unresolved issues. The pressure is on the team behind the game, with an October report (shortly after the release of Season 2) claiming that Xdefiant only had two seasons to show progress and upward momentum. In fact, it’s even less.

In December, Ubisoft confirmed it would be a sunset Xdefiant. On the same day as the announcement, the game was stripped from StoreFronts. But anyone who’s already downloaded it will take another six months to play their third final season. This was actually all the massive content dumps that were waiting for in the wings in future seasons.

Knowing that it will be the last day of Xdefiant on June 2nd, June 2nd and June 3rd, I jumped into some final games before this post before the plug was pulled at some point on June 3rd. I was hoping to feel the pain of nostalgia, but I also admitted that the time had come. To be honest, I just felt sad. Despite not playing in months, I quickly settled into the Xdefiant rhythm. This is its approach compared to other FPS games. It felt smooth. I felt satisfied. Despite the impending darkness, it felt… bright. It’s been a few hours since his death, but it’s full of energy.

Because players don’t have stats on hand, I can’t talk like I did about whether the player came back and had a massive bump to give Xdefiant a final outing. But what I can say is that it didn’t take long to find the match. And I’ve seen a lot of farewell posts online. For many, Xdefiant becomes another Memed “Ubisoft Flop” and you can understand why you take that stance. But despite its flaws it did a lot right and deserved a longer run than it got. For me, it’s a game Not once It would “kill” Call of Duty and his fellow FPS rivals, but it certainly taught them some valuable lessons when it came to taking themselves too seriously and drawing out the past in the right way.

So that’s the end of the line in Xdefiant. You’ll be missed, old chum. Well, young Chum, the truth. Whether you’re in the fun of Xdefiant or not, there are at least other free PC games and competitive multiplayer games.
