In a world where there are a dozen horror games, I’m still awakening deeply I managed to get up above the tide. Maybe I’m a bit biased – after all I’m Scottish – but the misfortune of the eerie oil rig set in the Chinese room had me a hook from start to finish. As someone I’m so excited About the Vampire: The Masquerade – Bloodlines 2, the latest outing in the Chinese room proves that they can really make great video games and, very honestly, I wanted Bloodlines 2 to be the horror epic I’d like. But ahead of the release of the Vampire RPG, Still Wakes The Deep is getting a new DLC entitled Siren’s Rest.
Set more than a decade after the event of Still The Deep the Deep, Siren’s rest sees him stepping into the shoes (or flippers) of a professional diving team tasked with exploring the wreckage of Belia D.
Events in Still Wakes cause deep things above the North Sea, but the siren rest watches us dive deep under the waves and slip into a dark, watery tomb plagued by human remains and much more ominous things. The Chinese room actually puts “survival” in this time “survival horror game” – it’s just you, the sea, the camera and a few tools.
The action takes place on both water and dry land. This means that a lot of time is spent swimming. The environment is a properly boring, salt-eating body floating in the middle of a tight, metal corridor, with something constantly moving around in the vibes around. There is a creepyness in that crushing silence and if something goes wrong, there is no place to go.
Using a cutting torch, demolish the rusty iron door, navigate the long-forgotten corridor of Belia D, remove the clover and pry open the wreckage and force a pass into the heart of the rig. The cameras are also armed. Cameras can be used to take photos of people’s bodies, property. There are no guns or knives here. There are some exploration tools and your own fortitude.
I can’t wait any longer as someone who really loved her time is still deeply awake. The cast of all Scottish voices, which appears to be starring Lois Chiminba as Mhairi and Lone McDonald as a colleague screaming for the trailer radio, also screaming. I love the good Scotland accents in video games and the siren rest is set to deliver again.
The Chinese Room has awakened Siren’s Rest, still Deep’s first DLC, and confirmed it will be released on Wednesday, June 18th. The price is $12.99/£9.99.
