According to Sly’s family, he died after his battle with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD), a lung disease.

“It is a deep sadness to announce the death of our beloved dad, Sly Three Stone, and our family’s stone,” read a statement on his family’s Instagram. “After a long battle with COPD and other underlying health issues, Sly passed away peacefully surrounded by his three children, his closest friends and his extended family.”
