We see many newcomers germinating to destabilize the monopoly of the soccer game held by EA FC (formerly FIFA). Something like the UFL and goals are trying to rival the 11-year-old soccer SIM action offered by the Giants at EA Sports. But the secret secret to create the next big soccer game is not about realism, official license, shattering and creating a squad of God. rematch I didn’t expect it to take a more stylized cooperative multiplayer approach and become one of the breakout hits of the year, but that appears to be the case. According to developer Sloclap, around 2 million players have tried out the latest beta and have become one of the biggest games on Steam during the show.
If you’re not aware of a rematch, it’s basically five multiplayer soccer that controls only one individual player, not the entire team. Your traditional soccer sim side-on camera is discarded for a third-person view that allows you to investigate the pitch in front of you. There are no offsides, fouls or anything to interrupt the flow of the match. And while it’s possible to dribble and weave past the other player, it’s a good (and perhaps more satisfying) score to speak up on the teammates and set team goals. Rematch’s movements are extremely agile and acrobatic – Sloclap has previously mastered the amazing martial arts action game Sifu. To sum it all up, there are smooth and fresh sports games that players want to try.
While Rematch won’t be a free PC game later this month (if you want to pre-order, we’ll return $29.99/£20.99 right now), the latest open beta has jumped in freely. Sloclap has revealed that just under 1.9 million players have now tried it out via both steam and console. In total, more than 6.7 million matches were held.
This was popular on Steam, a traditionally under-popular destination for sports gaming fans and consoles, but the beta version remained the top five most played games on Valve’s platform for four days of live performance. Something impressive.
Now there’s pressure to see if that beta hype will take over to the game’s full launch. The rematch release date is set to Thursday, June 19th, so it won’t be long.
Sifu was a natural hit, but given its sporty nature, I didn’t find the rematch to be broad and attractive enough to attract similar levels of attention and excitement.
