The Israeli Defense Forces said “dozens” of Iranian missiles were launched into Israel early Saturday in multiple waves of strikes.

The boom of explosions possible from the sirens and Israeli interceptors could be heard in the skies of Jerusalem and Tel Aviv.

At least three people have been killed and dozens have been injured in Israel. Israeli emergency medical service Mazen David Admu says an Iranian missile struck near a central Israeli home early Saturday morning, killing two people and injuring 19 people.

Israeli fire and rescue teams said four homes were severely damaged.

Local media previously reported that one woman had been killed in the Tel Aviv area.

The IDF said “some of the missiles have been intercepted,” adding “search and rescue squads are currently in operation in many locations across the country where reports of fallen projectiles have been received.”

Ichirov Hospital in Tel Aviv said it had treated seven people injured in Iran’s second barrage. Six people suffered minor injuries, while the seventh was moderately injured. At least 34 people were injured in Tel Aviv during the first wave of strikes.

Israeli newspaper Haaretz writes that a direct hit was reported in central Israel, with five people injured. Several buildings said they had been attacked by Iranian missiles.

Israeli forces urged civilians to head for evacuation amid a fresh wave of missiles, but have since allowed them to leave again.

The European Commission’s Ursula von Leien Leien Post called Israeli President Isaac Herzog late Friday, urging “all political parties should act with the utmost control and work to remove the situation.”

The sound of explosions firing at targets and Iranian air defense systems echoed through the heart of Tehran, the capital of Iranian capital, shortly after midnight on Saturday.

Iran’s semi-official Tasnim News Agency reported a fire at Tehran’s Merabad International Airport and rose after it said the outlet was the airport.

Ongoing attacks on Israel’s Iranian nuclear site killed 78 people and injured more than 320 on Friday, the UN’s Iranian ambassador said. The strike killed the general and scientists, but the ambassador told the UN Security Council that the “overwhelming majority” of the victims were civilians.

According to Israeli Paramedic Services, the ambassador spoke shortly after the first Iranian barrage targeting Tel Aviv, which injured at least 34 people.

As Iranian projectiles and Israeli interceptor rockets left the path of smoke and flames across the night sky on Friday, Iran’s supreme leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei vowed to Israel to “escape safely from this great crime.”

UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres urged Israel and Iran to halt attacks on each other while he sought diplomacy.

“Arraignment of Iranian nuclear sites. Iranian missile attacks in Tel Aviv. Abundant escalation. Time to stop. Peace and diplomacy need to win,” Guterres wrote on X on Saturday.
