We are now spoiled for selection with great city builders, but I can always use more. Manor Road, Frostpunk 2, Storm, Timberborn, and the city skyline all offer us something slightly different, but none of them are quite similar. Prosperity: Heavy Crown Lies. Mix city builders, RTS games and medieval fantasies into one comprehensive experience and finally, the full 1.0 launch is set to be set immediately on Steam.
If you play something like Manor Lords, you’re quickly familiar with Thrive. You start as a new ruler of the medieval fantasy kingdom, harvest resources, arrange structures, and allow your people to do more than just survive. So far, city builder. But then things start to change.
As rulers, you also need to ensure the reputation of the kingdom. In other words, Thrive has a narrative event system where every choice is important. You can place your kingdom on the path of mercy and tyranny, and harsh decisions spread across three different acts of the game. Luckily, even if you choose to control, there are unique benefits and challenges, but we would always want to consider the next decision.
But when war comes to your door, things change. Thrive will turn into an RTS game similar to Age of Empires and Total War, and you will need to do what you can to win. Whether you’re surrounded by a castle, looting trade routes, or fighting fantasy creatures, it’s a quick way to think.
With Steam 1.0 rounding the corner, many features now thrive. These include huge visual fidelity overhauls, additional militia units, civil rebellions, improved trade routes, additional town buildings and structures, new impact systems, difficulty levels, and more. Regarding 1.0, it comes with quality of life upgrades, including full steam achievement support and the option to disable narrative dialogue.
Zugalu Entertainment has confirmed that Thrive: Heavy Lies The Crown will be on sale from Early Access on Wednesday, June 18th. You can find the game here.
