R. Kelly (Birth name: Robert Sylvester Kelly) serves time in prison for his assault and sexual abuse crimes, but recently a report has surfaced about alleged drug overdose at the back of a bar at the hands of prison staff. As a result, the dishonorable former hip-hop artist was reportedly rushed to the hospital. Below we categorize everything Kelly has ever known about the hospitalization he reported.
Where is R. Kelly now?
Kelly is behind the bar FCI Butner Medium I, North Carolina. He serves a total sentence of 31 years after being convicted of nine counts.A U.S. attorney for investigating Eastern District and Domestic Research in New York states, accusing him of assaulting him on the basis of criminal conduct, including sexual exploitation of children, forced labor and violations, including forced and transport of women and girls in interstate commercial business.
Did R. Kelly overdose?
Allhiphop reported on June 16, 2025 that attorney Beau B. Brindley claimed that Kelly had overdose in solitary confinement after allegedly being given extra medication by a prison employee.
“That means within two days of filing his claim, Prison Bureau officials overdose Mr Kelly well beyond the safe dose and administered a drug that put his life at risk,” Brindley said according to the outlet. “They gave him a dose of medicine that could kill him.”
Is R. Kelly in the hospital?
According to Allhiphop, Kelly was hospitalized after being allegedly taken medicine by prison staff. In a court filing from the emergency motion obtained by the outlet, the former R&B singer was quarantined on June 10, 2025 and administered additional medications on June 12 by staff. The next morning, Kelly felt dizzy and reportedly experienced vision loss before being taken to Duke University Hospital.
It is unknown what the drug in question is.
Doctors had kept Kelly under observation after discovering he had been given a “life-threatening dose” of the drug, the outlet reported. Additionally, according to Allhiphop, they found blood clots in both Kelly’s lungs and legs. After medical staff recommended Kelly to do surgery, prison officials allegedly ousted Kelly from the hospital.
“Within an hour, a police officer with a gun came to the hospital room and took Mr. Kelly away,” Brindley claimed, according to Allhiphop. “He was taken from the hospital contrary to his will and the instructions of the doctor. He was denied surgery that threatened his life with a blood clot in his lung. This happened. This is confirmed by hospital records. It cannot be denied.”
Kelly’s legal team claims he is subjected to unfair treatment during solitary confinement. Calling the condition “inhuman” Brindley claimed that Kelly went for days without eating because he was afraid of being poisoned, unable to eat food from the committee, spiders were raw, unable to make calls, and had no access to Allhiphop.
Kelly’s lawyers also argue for a temporary release into home detention. Meanwhile, prosecutors called the charges against The Motion and Kelly’s prison staff “aversion.” Chicago Sun Times.
