When Bungie, creator of Destiny 2 and Halo, announced that she was back for the first time marathonThe basic idea, a sci-fi FPS trilogy of the 90s that founded the studio, presented attractive prospects. The original game has a rich environment and powerful storytelling, and is novel to watch as it is explored further. But every part of the fresh news about the project has eased that excitement, from learning that the new game is a live service extraction shooter rather than a story-focused campaign to an allegedly plagiarism of art and closed alphas that have not invited early players. Now, instead of aiming for the intended launch this September, the marathon has been delayed indefinitely.
When I last heard the news about the marathon, Sony’s interactive CEO Herman Halst admitted an overwhelming alpha response, but did not announce plans to delay the FPS game as a result. It was published today on Bungie’s official website.
“Your voice was strong and clear through social media and every comment on discrepancy and real-time conversation.” “We’ve kept this (feedback) in mind. We know we need more time to create a marathon in a game that really reflects your passion.”
The post will officially announce the delays of the marathon. Bungie explains “continuing to deploy gameplay updates (including participants from Alpha) to include participants from Alpha, and testing new features online,” and explains “instant focus areas” for improvement. These include “more challenging and engaging AI encounters, more rewarding runs with new types of loot and dynamic events, and more related to aspects such as enhancing the game’s narrative and social features.
“We’ve heard from us again later this fall, where we can share the progress we’ve made alongside the game’s new release date,” the post offers by providing a revised launch timeline.
We’re waiting to hear more about the marathon, but there are plenty of other great options to play in the meantime.
