Sony stepped up to BAT yesterday (June 16th) as the first studio for Big Five US Studios, which presented a slate presentation at the Cineeurope Trade Conference in Barcelona. 28 years later Two days before the world premiere of the film in London on June 18th.

Stephen Odell, president of Sony’s international marketing and distribution, has begun his Slate presentation with a statement that reflects the view that Hollywood Studios gives up all boats.
“We hope to have another strong weekend at the global box office and sit here with more confidence about the present and future, against the anxiety we have felt over the past five years,” he said.
That powerful weekend at the global box office was driven primarily by the success of Universal/Dreamworks How to Train a Dragon.
O’Dell said “we have acknowledged that it is becoming difficult for theater owners to upgrade cinemas to meet cinema expectations,” and that “studios are being challenged to put together a consistent lineup that audiences are used to.”
“On the film front, it’s about creating persuasive content, selling it, and getting people excited about going to the film. Investing in and modernizing the film experience while on the side of the film is your challenge.
The need for theater owners to invest was a theme at Cinemacon in Las Vegas in April, and has already emerged as a major theme at Cineeurope this year.
In the spotlight
Sony has launched its presentation with a filmed message from stars Paul Rudd and Jack Black, who are the stars of the Christmas Day release. AnacondaIt then follows with comic footage of the cast, who are said to be making the film (directed by Tom Gorman).
Odell trumpeted “a great, exciting comedian with an amazing cast and backed by IP” and “Christmas release date, when these big consensus choice movies play the best.”
Among the films that benefited from the big spotlight in the presentation was Darren Aronofsky I caught the stolenin addition to the filmed messages from the filmmakers, there are two scenes and a trailer. The film was set in New York in the 1990s, and the Austin Butler character was unconsciously caught up in a criminal world.
Ivan Valverde, Sony’s Senior Vice President of International Distribution, highlighted Sony’s success in 2024. The latter featured scenes and trailers.

Mendes described his ambitious approach to four separate Beatles films. This requires great faith from cinema operators when it’s time to release the unprecedented film Binge in April 2028.
In his introduction, Odell spoke about investment opportunities at cinemas.
These words were echoed by Mendes in his remarks, implicitly suggesting what was being offered in return. “Sony is betting on the future of film,” he said.
