According to a letter obtained by Politico, Chairman Randi Weingarten, a long-time influential member of the Democratic National Committee, has left the DNC.
Weingarten, a member of the DNC, wrote to DNC Chair Ken Martin that there is a fundamental disagreement with leadership.
“I look a step away from the leadership you’re forgering,” she said in a letter dated June 5th.
Weingarten defended David Hogg, the former vice-chairman of the DNC, who was banished from the committee last week.
“Randy got applause from the members when they told them.
Martin told DNC officials and staff in a recent private conversation that Hogg “essentially destroyed the opportunity to show the leadership I need.”
Weingarten has been on the DNC’s strong rules and bylaws committee since 2009 and has been a representative of democratic practices since 1992.
A DNC spokesman did not immediately provide comment on the story.
