I’ve been on a little roll recently with the microprose. Publishers have reached a rich back catalogue and supported new concepts through work on games such as Dagger Directive, Exfil, Battlefall: State of Conflict, B-17 Flying Fortress, and AfterConflict. Currently, Microprose has announced another project that goes back to the past Spearhead 2similar to the 1998 tank simulator sequels, Steel Beasts and War Thunder, now returning with a focus on cooperatives and modern military technology.
For almost 30 years since the original simulation game began, Spearhead 2 is about to take it where its predecessor left off. Like the first game, the sequel is a combination of simulation and action, with players heading into the battle either on their own or in a cooperative squad of up to 16 other members.
The game’s missions take place in various regions of Europe and the Middle East and feature vehicles such as the APC, IFVS and, of course, the M1A2 Abram Stank. Spearhead 2 emphasizes tactics, but is also intended to provide immediate action, requiring careful thought to protect your base, kill important targets, to keep your fleet alive, ambush your carrier, and handle targets like city clearing.
This sequel is a major part of Microprose’s surprise announcement, but the publisher plans to reboot the original Spearnade on Steam as well.
