Since the beginning of 2024, the Malaga drone industry has tripled the value of its exports, primarily in relation to the software design and engineering of these devices.
In particular, in the ongoing Russo-Ukrainian War, companies like IJET Airlines are working to change that despite the link between drone technology and the military. Focusing on the civil aviation sector, IJET is a Malaga-based company working on designing new, innovative air transport.
One of their most innovative projects is the concept of air taxis. They hope to provide passengers with a connection from Malaga to Marbella in just 15 minutes. CEO Javier Barriga confirmed in an interview that IJET had already purchased 10 vertical take-off aircraft in advance and was waiting for construction to provide consumers with a futuristic mode of transport.
Software Prioritization
While 87% of companies in the sector are based in Sevilla and Cadiz, the Malagan company has found a niche in the software sector. In particular, advances in AI and microprocessor technology have led to the cast of Malaga drone companies seeing an increase in market share.
Aertec, a Malaga-based aerospace company, recently signed an agreement by the Spanish Department of Defense to acquire the wings of its Tarsis drone. The wing can maintain flights of up to 100 km/h for 12 hours on a flight ceiling of 5,000 meters above sea level.
