If you think the moon is just a rock and a crater, think about it again. Tonight, for the first time, a small house, and yes, it’s a real real home, being home on the moon. Of course, that’s not your usual brick and mortar job. This is more like a miniature wonder. Designed by Swedish artist Michael Jenberg, the quirky little “Moonhouse” is set to create space history with a splash of imagination.
And here’s the best bit. You can see that it is born from your sofa.

The whole idea behind Moon House is fun and simple. I think it’s okay to dream a little bigger. Mikael Genberg, the artist behind this Bonkers Plan, has been working on projects for nearly 25 years. He works with astronomer Emil Vintehab, who cared for technical aspects like the brain, and Ispace, a Japanese space company that actually owns this miniature home on the moon.
This is not an astronaut crash pad, it’s a tiny little house, the size of a biscuit box, 3D printed with paper-thin metal walls, so it can withstand rough landings and crazy moon temperatures. Genberg believes that will continue unless the asteroid decides to stop by. “It’s about giving people hope and imagination,” he says. “If you know that there’s a house on the moon, you can suddenly imagine yourself. And honestly, everything is happening in the world, so you need to imagine a new place, especially for the kids.”
How to watch Moonhouse landings and why it’s worth watching
All landings are set to Thursday, June 5th at 21:24 CET, and only requires no telescopes, screens or internet connection. The whole thing will be broadcast live on YouTube, so you can witness a bit of human creativity that will hold cuppas and leave that mark in another world.
